Do you know someone with a mental disorder and wished you could understand how they actually experience life? Around 20% of adults are affected by some form of mental disorder every year in Australia. Most people with mental illness recover well and are able to lead fulfilling lives in the community – when they receive appropriate ongoing treatment and support. Supporting someone with a mental illness can also be a challenging experience that pushes you along unexpected and unknown paths. However, only about half of those affected actually receive treatment from Mental Health professionals. This presentation will include the life experience of someone with a mental illness i.e. obsessive compulsive behaviour, a carer and Suzanne Wood, a representative of an organisation which supports families affected by Mental Illness. This is an opportunity to learn of their experiences first hand and to ask questions on most issues relevant to Mental Illness.
